He stood by her side, ever through thick and thin
He was always there, and she knew he would be again;
But then one morning, after another night's roaming
She sought him out, the lost pigeon homing

"He is always there", she thought, no matter what
"It isn't really cheating, nothing to be caught";
Yet standing here alone, before the light of dawn,
She came upon the truth: he was gone.

Vocies whispered "One time too many, one lie too far"
"Even the darkness of night can overcome a star...";
She laughed away the sudden chill, he would surely come back,
But on through the day and into the night, her world began to crack

The silence grew, the skies dimmed, a harsh chill filled the air
"The truth will out," her fears cackled - and still he was not there;
Now she merely stared at his spot, willing his return,
All down through the years, while the truths within burned

For she had lied and cheated, in wanton betrayal,
Never seeing the man beyond her selfish veil;
And now in her eld, and lost in the dark
She whispers his name, hoping on a lark

That he might come back, the love of her life
and forgive that she had been as another man's wife.
But Life was not a story, her choices she had made;
And she never knew the truth: his memories never fade.
